Beni Mguild Rugs are from the middle Atlas mountains and are hand-knotted with handspun wool by the Berber women of Morocco. These rugs were traditionally made for extra comfort in winter times: to keep warm or to cover cold floors.
These handmade rugs are completely unique, all telling a story steeped in culture and superstition. These stories can be read through the symbols woven by the artisans. This rug features lozenge or diamand shapes which represent protection. Some of the symbols within those protective shapes are eight point stars meant to capture evil spirits, diamonds within diamonds representing the feminine and so on.
This particular rug is a favorite of ours here at Kushti and looking at it it is easy to see why. The plush warm colour pallet of this rug would make it a beautiful addition to any traditional or contemporary home.
